If you’re visiting Yakushima, Miyanoura has some amazing local spots to enjoy delicious meals. From fresh seafood to cozy cafés, here’s a list of places I personally recommend, along with some tips to make your visit smooth.

The deep-fried flying fish set meal is absolutely delicious!
It’s best to call and make a reservation right when they open on the same day.
Kaishū
No English menu.
The karaage set meal is very filling and costs only 1,100 yen—super tasty!
Wakadaishō
An izakaya-style restaurant where you can enjoy the local atmosphere.
A great spot for local sushi lovers—reservation required.
Perfect for those who want to try fresh local fish.

Izakaya Toshi
A cozy izakaya where the fish dishes are excellent!

Not a fully vegan restaurant, but vegan-friendly with a nice atmosphere.
They offer not only Japanese food but also many original dishes!
☕️Cafe series
Gecko Cafe
A café that highlights the natural flavors of ingredients.
The flying fish hot sandwich made with rice flour is insanely good!
They also have a wide variety of drinks and the vibe is super chill 🫶🏽
Reservation required (check Instagram, etc.).
No perfume allowed.
Yakushima-kan
A local café run by grandmothers, where the community gathers.
Their handmade juice is delicious, and the café set menu is both cheap and tasty.
Using a translation app is recommended when ordering!
Dining Cafe Misola
A bakery-café located inside a hotel.
The bread is high quality and super tasty.
Since it’s in a hotel, the service is great and the view is amazing!
When visiting these restaurants, most places are cash-only and many staff do not speak English.
I recommend having cash on hand and using a translation app to make ordering easier.
