Drive through Western Forest Road (西部林道ドライブ)

One of Yakushima’s most unique experiences is driving through the Western Forest Road, which stretches along the wild coastline between Nagata and Kurio. This narrow, winding road cuts through dense forest and cliffs overlooking the sea — a place where nature completely takes over. You’ll likely spot wild Yakushima macaques and deer roaming freely on the roadside. Drive slowly, take your time, and enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by untouched wilderness.
